finesse without form
Dec. 2nd, 2022 10:25 amThe first night of The Holiday Thangy is past us. The staff at Da Park really busted their ass yesterday before the event. A ton of inflatable games were installed and a shit ton of random decorations done as well. I spoke with Peter Pumpkin Eater last night and he said we were at about 92% completed (which means technically I was right. Everything was not completed in time, though they came a lot closer than I expected. Good on them!). He and some others will be there today trying to finish up. All the displays he and I put up on the train tracks in the park look fabulous. It was exhausting and frustrating but ultimately I think worth it. At the end of the evening the entire working staff took a train ride and saw all of our hard work. At one point the train was collectively chanting my and Peters name. Not gonna lie…..that was pretty goddamn cool.
I worked at the S’mores tent sponsored by the Raleigh Fire Department. At the beginning the only fireman there was a captain I have spoken with a few times before. Eventually couple volunteers worked greeting the guests whilst I worked maintaining the fire pits. We had three pits set up and my job was to basically keep the flames going. Every 30 minutes or so I would chuck another piece of wood into the fire pit. The rest of the time my job was to stand there and keep warm. That came in handy with it being 29° last night. I told C-Mac that my optimum schedule moving forward would be just this and driving the train. I would love to get paid to stand in front of a fire and keep warm while everyone else was dressed as an elf, walking around in the cold. I don’t wanna work at the Santa Station. I don’t want to work at his workshop or the North Pole Post Office. I want to just hang out, keep warm & get paid!
Side note-yesterday I jokingly said I would probably end up selling like a fireplace. When I got home last night Erica was asleep. I snuck into the bedroom and kissed her on the cheek. She said “you smell like a bonfire“. Ha!
