hunting naked with bare traps
Dec. 4th, 2022 06:47 pmFriday was night 2 of The Holiday Thang at Da Park (only 16 nights to go!). I again spent the evening working the 'Smores tent. It got busy a couple times but was mostly it was manageable. I hung out at the firepits for the better part of the evening, shooting the breeze with Captain Lem and Barnes from The Bronx.
Lat night I arrived at work dressed a little lightly, knowing I would be in front of a fire all night. Just my work polo and Recordo' Sto' hoodie. I went into Shelter 3 to check in. I signed my timesheet and waited for C-Mac to tell me to head to 'Smores. She had her back to me and was on the radio. Apparently Nickle-Less had called in sick so she moved Young Addison to take his shift at the train. It had been a rainy day and the park was moist. She was talking with Not Scott, telling him Addison was not comfortable working the train. When the tracks are wet it takes a different method to drive. There are a lot of traction issue and the train has a tendency to slide a little on the inclines. Not Scott asked C-Mac which operators were on the schedule for the night. She read off a handful of names and Scott relied immediately "Chip. Get Chip on the train. He'll know how to handle it. Nothing fazes him". C-Mac okayed him and turned to me, unaware I had heard her conversation. "Hey Chip! Tonight's your night to shine! Scott wants you driving the train!" A couple of the people standing behind me (Simone, Marty etc) hooted and hollered, yelling out my name. I was ecstatic, though put off by the fact I had dressed so scantily.
My glorious return to the train went well. I did 17 trips (including the employee ride after the parks event closes). There were all kinds of problems due to the rain. Parts of the track where we should be booking along slowed down to a crawl. One woman actually thanked me for going slower so she could get some pics. It was obvious she did not notice the wheels spinning and the train being sluggish. If she wants to believe it was by design who am I to tell her differently? Not Scott did the employee ride and as he departed the train station said "Chip on the train, huh? I guess life is back to normal."
