sitting on an angry chair
Jul. 15th, 2024 09:46 amGood news.....Pumpkin (Pie) is well. Younga had a rough day and simply did not respond to my texts. No probs. All is well.

I Woke Up With.....some random Alice In Chains Song Rattling In My Head. I went to youtube and dove directly down the AIC rabbit hole. I was (and remain) a huge fan of the band. They fulfilled a lot of my musical needs. They were heavy and loud yet they were acoustic and soft. They wrote cock rock lyrics as well as self-reflective emotional poetry. I especially loved singer Layne Staley. He was an enigma with the voice of of an wild lion. His harmony with guitarist Jerry Cantrell is stunning. Truly 2 voices made for each other. I honestly believe each was put here to sing with the other. (dig up the Alice MTV Unplugged. It is breathtaking) At times, Staley was nothing more than a junkie. Other times a vocalist untouchable by his peers. I hate heroin. I hate junkies. I watched as my musical heroes dropped one by one because of smack. Eventually it claimed Laynes life as well. I think this track captures them in the truest light. It's a 3-minute blast of guitar rock smacking you in the face. A singable chorus and cryptic lyrics that on the surface are intangible. A one word question as a title. Then you can go online and read about WHY this song HAD to be written. The lyrics now make sense and turn this into one of the saddest, most haunting songs of the band career and the 1990's in general.
'Have I run too far to get home?' heard in context is one of the most heartbreaking lyrics i have ever heard.
