It’s no secret I look forward to Friday. It’s the one day I can get out of the apartment and do something fun.On random Fridays we go to El Recordo Sto & have a beer with Eddie TPG and Tony Beer as we did last night. But otherwise Fridays rule because it’s....Grocery Day! I know it’s weird but I love going grocery shopping. Whenever I visit a new city I usually visit one or two grocery stores. (Bonus points if u can score a frequent shopper card).
So yesterday I was lying on the bed navigating some spreadsheets when I saw it was about time to go. I closed my laptop and stretched out long and lanky like a cat. I rolled a little my left and the next thing I knew I was on the floor, with scrapes on my knees and forehead. Instinctively i used what little strength I had to get my arms up to the bed. I worked my body up to my knees. I tried pushing up more but I don’t have the strength in my legs. I called Erica to help me. She screamed and had a small meltdown before coming over & putting her arms around my left armpit. She tugged as I used all I in my legs. Within moments I was on the bed back to my day and Erica was back to her meltdown.
I wasn’t hurt but I was certainly disappointed. I came home from the hospital on January 19. When Erica and I attempted our first slide, from the bed to the wheelchair, I fell off the bed. It was the combination of silk shorts on the velveteen blanket. I slid right off like butter off of a hot knife. We have been 100% ever since. How many days have passed since January 19, 2024 and today?
323 days without incident. There are two sides per complete transfer. Getting from the bed to the wheelchair, then later the wheelchair back to the bed. If we had done simply one transfer a day that would amount to 646 slides. I would say half of those days we did multiple slides. I would guess roughly 501 times in this period. That’s 1002 sides. Without problems. I did not fall while doing a transfer but that is the biggest risk. If you throw in 323 nights of sleeping without falling off the bed that pushes our streak well into the 1300s.
Hopefully our next streak will be longer so I won’t write another post like this until the end of summer next year
