Note-we did not wake up to a gorgeous morning snow as hoped. We woke up instead to av sunny 23° morning. If you don’t know, 23° is effing cold.
Recordo’ sto’ bits and pieces.,,,,,
I haven’t spoken about the record store at length for the last couple of months for whatever reason there may be (laziness. Whatever reason is laziness).
Since I went into the hospital in August 2023 there has been a plethora of changes. My dear record store is almost unrecognizable these days. I decided to not return to an in-store roll post Covid. GingerBoy offered to take my responsibilities as social media manager off my shoulders. I stayed home & handled online orders and some random customer service issues. In the time since, GingerBoy & J-Ray coventrated more on booking live shows than selling musi. Both wanted to see if the store as a venue and not a retail operation. They booked over 100 shows but between additional payroll, supplies and ticketing fees it turned out to not be profitable. In this time the Chapel Hill store dried up as well. We made the decision to close that store (we are in the process now)
Because of some issues with attitudes, GingerBoy and J-Ray have both left the fold. They were replaced with a young lady named Olivia. DaJudge gave her full autonomy to do as she saw fit. She has done an amazing job cleaning and restructuring the store. But all of her ideas for retail improvements have already been done by Ginger and myself. Five years ago we had three stores with 15 employees. Now it’s down to Da Judge, Olivia and myself.
The reason I’m writing all this is because Monday was Cyber Monday. The last one that day. before Covid I was still working on social media. We sold over 100 pieces online. After the lockdown I was offered the position again but declined. As noted GingerBoy took over the social media. He did well for a month before slowly letting it slip. For the last year the only posts qwew about shows. Nothing of new release or special events. This has all led to yber Monday 2020 f4or awarding us a total of..................................TWO online sales.
Da Judge has mentioned me returning to in-store. I’ve told him the only way is for me to have my own office in the stores back. I don’t want to be bothered by customers or beer vendors or other peoples musical choices. I want to come in and handle five Facebook pages, three Instagram pages, one TikTok page, and one record label website. Unfortunately there is no room so I’m just gonna stay here lying on my bed dropping in every day or two. Afar cry from the 30-40 online orders i generated each day but so goes life,,,,
