One year ago today I drove back to the doctors urgent care after seven days of prescribed pills did me no good in my struggle to pee. I signed in and sat down in the corner. They called my name an hour later but by that point I was physically unable to stand up. A nurse and an orderly helped me to the back where I did a quick blood test. I was just dumped into the little waiting room and 10 minutes later the attending nurse came in. “You have to go to the hospital. Right this moment”’ she said. Within minutes I was whisked into an ambulance and headed to the hospital. When I arrived I met up with Da Younga Sista. To this day I have no idea how she was informed or showed up before I did but I am eternally grateful she did. She was there every step of this journey. That led to a diagnosis of Mersa and as blood sugar of over 800 which led to an emergency surgery which led to 19 days recovering in the hospital which led to 13 days recovery at home when upon the 13th day I collapsed which led to a trip to a different hospital where i got a diagnosis of another Mersa this time on my spine, which led to an emergency surgery which led to compressed nerves which led to four months recovery which led to six weeks of spinal cord injury rehab which led to meeting Margaret, Nelly and Liz whose combined effort saved me from being in a dark place which would have led to a depression but instead led me to a warm light which led to me leaving in January 19 as a paraplegic with a wheelchair which led to my becoming a ward of the state surviving on disability and food stamps which led to Brittany which leads to a recovery as slow as it may be but still happening which leads to today where I tell you the story of one year ago today....
