the other steps involved
Aug. 7th, 2023 12:42 pmLast night I saw that there was a train shift open for today. Being a conscientious employee, as well as a fan of money, I jumped on it. I was stoked to work with Alex R. When I got to work I was informed Alex called in sick (again) and I would be saddled with Annoying Mike. I’ve often said that I could tolerate Mike for an extra shift's paycheck but man alive, he’s making it difficult. He is ridiculously over the top and loud. He’s a nice guy but he has no personality around kids. The ironic part is he is a retired principal. Everything he does comes across as calculated and forced. No spontaneity on any level. I can almost deal with all that but what gets my goat is how he constantly interrupts me. If I’m scanning and interacting with kids I don’t need you to butt in. If I’m giving the announcements for the ride I don’t need a cheerleader on the side. It’s almost a constant need for attention. Everything...and i mean everything, is overly/unnecessarily loud.
His greatest hits (imagine each done at max volume)-
1) YOU KNOW WHAT'S BETTER THAN 1 TRAIN RIDE?? TWO TRAIN RIDES!!!!
2) RESEARCH SHOWS BIG KIDS HAVE MORE FUN THAN LITTLE KIDS!!!!
3) WHO PAID FOR THE TICKETS? MOMMY? YOU SHOULD GIVE HER A BIIIIIIGGGGGG HUG!!!!
It’s like clockwork he will use each of these phrases repeatedly during the day. #2 is clearly his favorite as he will say this to multiple adults on each ride.
I was doing the announcements this morning and I was on the third one ('when we get back to the station please remain seated until the engineer says the train has come to a complete stop') when he yelled out something and completely broke my stream of thought. When we got back to the station he pointed out I didn’t finish that announcement. No shit Sherlock. 'It’s hard to concentrate with you shouting all of the time' I responded. It was like water off a duck. I went back to scanning and he went to interrupting all of my interactions.
Our work week ends on Monday. I have to work next Monday and then Tuesday through Saturday. That puts me at nine of the next 10 days. I noticed a train shift with him next week. I’m pretty sure I’m going to get KC to change it to Dr. Watson. I am no longer sure it’s worth a days pay to work with this cat.
