While on the way home from visiting MeMum today I was listening to something on NPR. Perhaps it was The New Yorker Radio Hour? It was an audio diary of a guy venturing out on a hiking/canoeing expedition with his friends. He was lamenting how they were all growing older and how they should relish these peaceful times with each other, enjoying nature. Speaking of the desolation of the lake he said something (to the effect of) you can paddle the lakes along with other explorers then not see another human being for 3 or 4 days. I thought about beautiful his surroundings must have been. That's when I realized it wasn't the lake that appealed to me, it was the 'not seeing another human being for 3 or 4 days' part. I can grow tired of the humans pretty quickly at times. I wonder what it must be like to not see anyone for a few days?
