suspended in hesitation
Jul. 11th, 2023 11:11 amDa Olda Sista texted me last week to say we received a bill for $288 from an insurance company. I told her that was probably for bonding in regards to her financial guardianship. It got me to thinking. I can’t see why the financial guardianship is still necessary. We’ve proven to the courts all of MeMum‘s funds has been exhausted properly. There is no reason we should have to continue to report our financial dealings when the estate is valued under $300. We get two deposits a month and we send two checks a month. There’s not a lot of room for improprieties.
I emailed the Law Talking Guys about it. They suggested we petition the court to end the 'guardian of the estate' title. I conferred with both of Da Headstrong Sista’s over the weekend and they were both for it. Basically the Da Olda will continue in her role of doling checks out to both of facility and Da Lawyers but we will no longer have to keep diligent records proving to the courts our spending is legitimate.
My fingers are crossed the court will find it unnecessary as well and absolve it. Even though all of the hard work is in the past having the guardianship hanging over Olda is still a burden for her. I have told her repeatedly that we have accomplished our goal but she still feels like someone, somehow, somewhere is going to come down on her for doing something wrong. We will have to print up a few more monthly statements and submit them before the lawyers can proposition the court. Younga Sista will remain 'guardian of the person' but there are no fees or penalties involved in her roles.
When we got the year-end inventory passed in January 2023 (which was due August 2, 2022. That should give an idea of what a hassle it was) I breathed a sigh of relief but knew we would have to continue with monthly tasks. If we can pull the guardianship off of Da Olda we can almost get back to the normalcy of our pre-Alzheimer's lives.
