clearing out cobwebs
Apr. 19th, 2023 09:31 amHe told me last week he accepted a full-time gig with another branch of Da Parks department. He is leaving next week. I wil still see him but the days of hanging out are ending. Normally losing co-workers suck but I can roll on. But I am definitely going to miss Pete. Why? Here's part of the reason (Hey! Hey!! It's KC Story Time!!)
To give some background...Peter just cannot get to work on time. It's become a running joke. He is never abusive about his tardiness, but constantly 1, 2, 5 minutes late. Neither of us knew this but the Park Assistants keep track of these things. You get a .5 demerit if you are late and a full 1 point if you do not show for your shift (even if it is a legit illness or emergency). Supposedly if you hit 3 points for the month (each month is a clean slate) you get a verbal warning. Last month no one was tallying things up and Pete got written up when they realized he had 8 points for the month! Holy shitballs. Since then he has been very vocal about other park staff being late (not operators like me but "the suits" who kind of wander in at their leisure throughout the morning). PPE and I were walking to the train yesterday. It was about 9:10 and our pal KC was walking in Da Park. She loves us and never fails to come say hi. We gave her shit about the time (me jokingly, Peter somewhat passive-aggressively). I told her this behaviour was unaccepatable!
Me-"KC, I will not tolerate such insolence!"
KC-"Insolence? What is that?"
PPE-"It's that stuff that diabetics can't make".
I let out a hardly laugh. That may have been the single best comeback of 2023.
Me-"A flagrant disregard for the rule of law" KC looked at me quizzically.
Me-"Fuck all yall. Imma do what I want"
KC-Ah. Got it!"
I am gonna miss ol' Petey.
