save it for showtime, pussycat
Feb. 25th, 2023 10:12 amThough it was a couple hours shorter than usual, yesterdays train shift was fun. It was a nice 70 degree day (whilst
theskyyends was getting snowed on....in Cali! What the hell?) I worked with Alex M, who I believe was a circus ringmaster in a past life. He loves interacting with people & being the center of attention. We are still using the gas engine while the propane engine is being refurbished. Alex says he is too tall and continually bonks his head on the roof. He asked if I could do all the driving. Done deal, dude!! He scanned the tickets and did all the pre-ride announcements. My day was basically jotting the number of passengers on the ride sheet and driving. Simple as a dimple. It was nice to be out in shorts and a short-sleeved shirt. I saw a pile of lizards on the fence & turtles sunning themselves on the lake shore.
I have another short shift today. I am working with Kerson The Meathead. This kid has the conversational skills of a cold bowl of mushroom soup. We have never had a meaningful talk. I will try to initiate conversations but always get one word/one sentences replies. Not the best co-worker for a yapper like myself. BUT....he is not a Certified Miniature Train Operator like myself and can only work the caboose. That means he will do all the scanning and announcements. Another day of just driving.
Not that I expect it to be too busy. Today we are looking at 45 degrees and 100% chance of rain. I envision of lot of sitting on the engine and looking at my ipod. I think I will recharge one of my Kindles before I leave.....
