Jan. 5th, 2023 03:53 pmIt's no secret I hate 96.9% of "classic rock". For the most part, I feel it's under-performing overplayed rubbish. I hate Led Zeppelin. Never ever want to hear Steve Miller again. You could destroy every KISS album on the planet....I am okay with that. The fault does not lie on the artists. It's falls on the shit that is Raleigh Radio. We have not had a station playing current rock music since around the turn of the century. But lucky us.....there have been at least 6 classic rock stations in that time, all playing the same hackneyed horseshit. I am so effing sick of the same dozen songs. JFC. Right now we have 2 "classic rock" stations (92.9 & 100.7) and one that plays shit from the 50's-70's (104.7). It is a nice diversion until "Dock Of The Bay" comes on the 1,100 time this week. I know....this is not the first time I have railed abut this shit on LJ.
So I am driving to pick up Erica from work earlier. Drop into 104.7 ("The Music of Your Life"). The familiar keyboard begins. "Light My Fire". One of the 3.1% of the classic rock I can listen to. The song rambles on but I fear the worst. 104.7 will not play the album version because it's 8 minutes long. Sure enough, they play the AM radio version. If you've not heard it, it has the VERY WORST EDIT in recorded music history. It's clumsy and clunky. I have oft wondered if it had been edited by a deaf person or maybe it was some kids first attempt. ITS HORRIBLE!
I listened anyway and of course, was disappointed. The next song began but I wanted nothing of it (The Love You Lost-Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes. Blech). I turned to 100.7 (Where Raleigh Comes To Rock (We Don't!)", joking to myself how neat it would be if Light My Fire came on.
Holy schnickies! Light My Fire freaking came on!! The full 8 minute version. I had to drive around a few extra minutes before picking The Girl up so I could play steering wheel guitar.
The shitty version directly followed by the LP version. Craziness. Looks like the Weirdness Parade is alive and healthy in 2023.
