Jan. 2nd, 2023 10:41 amToday is my favorite day of the football season!!! I think there’s a game on tonight but that has a little bearing on the day. Today is “Trying To Figure Out Who Makes It To The Playoffs” Day!
With one week left in the season there’s always a handful of teams on the bubble. For a few teams their fate is in their own hands. Win the next game and you make it to the playoffs. You lose, you go home. That’s as simple as a pimple. But the reason I like today is because of the ridiculous mathematical nature needed for some teams to make the playoffs. It cracks me up when I hear things like “For Tupelo to make the playoffs, they need to defeat Rochester. They also need help from Cheyenne beating Saint Paul and Charlotte beating Plattsburgh by at least 10 points. If Charlotte beats Plattsburgh by only nine points than Tupelo needs Long Beach to win by three coupled with San Jose losing against Reno. But if Charlotte beats Plattsburg by 11 and Charlotte loses by 3... then Tupelo needs San Andreas to defeat Miami and Wilmington to defeat New Hill. But if New Hill wins Tupelo is shit out of luck.”
There is always some team that needs a domino effect of 11 things to happen for them to make it to the playoffs. It makes me laugh the NFL employs some nerds to figure this shit out every year. I’m a fan of both the Seattle Seahawks & the New York Jets. The Seahawks may make the playoffs if a couple of things go their way. Being a Jets fan, making the playoffs is something I never have to worry about.
