like it or not, you're one of us now
Dec. 18th, 2022 08:58 amOur first night with Maxwell as a family member was interesting. Erica had already spent a few hours with her by the time I returned home from the Holiday Thing. Maxwell was a little apprehensive when I came in and ran under the couch. But she popped her head back out 30 seconds later. Erica said she has been zooming around all evening. I walked over and gave her a pet and indeed, she took off running. For the next 30 minutes I discussed with Erica how things went at the shelter while Maxwell ran around crazily. I was super tired from another shift so I told Erica it was time for me to go to bed. We left Maxwell in the living room to her own devices as we came into the bedroom to crash. Erica said the kittie had been mainly in the living room and never ventured back this far. So it came as quite a surprise when she leapt up on the bed and jumped over me. She was a little feisty but after 10 minutes or so decided it was her bedtime as well. She crawled up in a little ball and fell asleep. Five minutes later she was still sleeping but completely stretched out. She got comfortable very quickly! As usual I was having trouble sleeping so I rolled over onto my back to play some games on my iPod. Maxwell leapt up onto me and stretched out across my chest. Her purring was loud enough to drown her in a jackhammer. I stroked her fur and scratched her head thinking she would only be here for a moment. Almost 45 minutes later I had to move her off my chest because my back was starting to bother me. She spent the rest of the evening curled up between me and Erica. I honestly didn’t think she would be comfortable sleeping with us for a few days but looks like I was wrong.
Last night I got home from the Holiday Thing and almost immediately went to bed. Again, within moments of bed arrival, Maxwell was there. She curled up into a ball and went off to Kitten Dreamland. She stayed the entire night. I am amazed how quickly she adapted. As I am typing this she is running around like a looney tune, jumping up and down off the couch and table. She is still feeling the after effects of the anesthesia but hopefully that will wear off today and our normal life with her can begin. I’m going to try to squeeze in a nap later and I would bet Maxwell will share the bed with me.
