don't get too comfy
Oct. 31st, 2022 03:41 pmThe temperature never got above 70° which made for a nice weekend. The clouds filled the sky which kept the temperature pleasant. I was able to get Erica up and out kind of early on Saturday morning. There is a cemetery on the other side of town we wanted to check out. I had driven past it while exploring a road a few weeks ago. It looked to be old and unkempt. We got out, looked at some old headstones and cleaned off some grave markers. Afterwards we went to a park on the other side of Raleigh. I never remember the name of the park. We just call it “the goats”. We hung out with said goats (and chickens) for a while and strolled the park grounds. Stopped at the groceria on the way home and had a nice evening.
Sunday around noon I was bored so I texted J-Nic. There’s a guy in downtown Raleigh who does extreme Halloween decorations and I knew she would dig it. We drive over and picked up her and her roommate Cameron. They were as blown away as I expected. As we were rolling away, J-Nic suggested we grab a bite to eat. I wanted to go to Frank’s Pizza but unfortunately they were closed. We ended up at the My Way Tavern on Peace Street. I got a cheeseburger w/fries while Erica grabbed a Nathan‘s hotdog. We spent a while eating and catching up on a beautifully overcast Sunday. Eventually I drove the girls home then Erica and I hung out doing a lot of nothing the rest of the day.
It’s funny how getting out and doing such trivial things feel so rewarding after being stuck inside for two years. I am nowhere near as social as I once was but I do believe in baby steps. Erica has been a little shy about getting out and doing things because of the pandemic. I don’t criticize her for it because I understand. But at some point we have to go back to being alive this weekend was a huge step forward. This is the best weekend I’ve had since March 2020! Being out and about and having fun with people I love is priceless.
