The temperature never got above 70° which made for a nice weekend. The clouds filled the sky which kept the temperature pleasant. I was able to get Erica up and out kind of early on Saturday morning. There is a cemetery on the other side of town we wanted to check out. I had driven past it while exploring a road a few weeks ago. It looked to be old and unkempt. We got out, looked at some old headstones and cleaned off some grave markers. Afterwards we went to a park on the other side of Raleigh. I never remember the name of the park. We just call it “the goats”. We hung out with said goats (and chickens) for a while and strolled the park grounds. Stopped at the groceria on the way home and had a nice evening.

Sunday around noon I was bored so I texted J-Nic. There’s a guy in downtown Raleigh who does extreme Halloween decorations and I knew she would dig it. We drive over and picked up her and her roommate Cameron. They were as blown away as I expected. As we were rolling away, J-Nic suggested we grab a bite to eat. I wanted to go to Frank’s Pizza but unfortunately they were closed. We ended up at the My Way Tavern on Peace Street. I got a cheeseburger w/fries while Erica grabbed a Nathan‘s hotdog. We spent a while eating and catching up on a beautifully overcast Sunday. Eventually I drove the girls home then Erica and I hung out doing a lot of nothing the rest of the day.

It’s funny how getting out and doing such trivial things feel so rewarding after being stuck inside for two years. I am nowhere near as social as I once was but I do believe in baby steps. Erica has been a little shy about getting out and doing things because of the pandemic. I don’t criticize her for it because I understand. But at some point we have to go back to being alive this weekend was a huge step forward. This is the best weekend I’ve had since March 2020! Being out and about and having fun with people I love is priceless.

Happy first day of the crass consumer commercialism known as HalloGivingsMas(Eatin' Season)(TM)

Prepare to be overwhelmed by holiday ads! Black Friday specials! Overpriced turkeys! Spend your money and stuff your face! Listen to retailers beg you to spend money you don't have buying shit no one needs to give to people you don't care about! This year, BE.A.REBEL! Do not spend money on people who mean nothing to you. Instead, send it to me! You know me. You love me (more or less). PayPal me!!

Then, after Eatin' Season crashes to a halt at midnight on December 25....time to buy presents to celebrate my birthday on Dec 29!!!

Hooray!!!

Behold the beauty of a traditional HalloGivingsMas decoration !!
