I had a morning shift on the kiddie boats yesterday (I have an evening shift on them tomorrow as well). It was another stiflingly hot North Carolina day so attendance at the park was pretty sparse. I ran a handful of rides, mostly to just one or two kids. Around 1 o’clock yesterday an average looking couple strolled up with their average looking son. We tossed him onto the boat, allowed the family to take too many photos and then I ushered them outside the gate. I flipped the switch and the boats began their revolutions. As usual, the parents were loudly screaming at their child. I couldn’t really make out what they were yelling. It almost sounded as if they were yelling the word “mystery.”. The boat ride eventually ended and I allowed the parents in to grab their child. As they were exiting the gate inquired as to what it was they were yelling. “Mr. Beef” said the mother. "Excuse me? Did you say Mr. Beef?” I responded. “Yeah yeah. His nickname is Mr. Beef.”

There are a lot of mysteries in the world. There’s a lot of information that is accessible but not necessarily desired. Out of all the things I don’t want to know about in this life...why your child’s nickname is Mr. Beef is now at the top of that list.
